Welcome to March Month Session 2013 at Nepal
About the presentation
Index Internals (Duration 60 minutes)
Abstract: Most DBAs have heard of indexes but not everyone understands how they work. In this in-depth session, Anil will cover the internals of indexes including index filtering and partitioning. He'll compare the B-trees of different index types, explain fragmentation, and use undocumented commands to show you what an actual index page looks like. Attendees will walk away with a better understanding of indexes, which is helpful when designing and tuning databases. If you've ever wondered just *what* goes on in an index, this is the session for you!
Presenter: Anil Krishnan
Anil Krishnan is a MCITP DBA on SQL Server 2005 and 2008, a former MSP (Microsoft Student Partner) currently working at MyDBA Nepal since October 2012 as a Database Support Engineer.

Troubleshooting SQL Server’s high-availability services with Extended Events (Duration 90 minutes)
Abstract: This session will show how SQL Server uses Extended Events to provide debugging information about Failover Clustering Instances and Availability Groups, allowing you to use this information yourself and to troubleshoot SQL Server’s HA features further.
Presenter: Gavin Payne
Gavin Payne is a Microsoft Certified Architect and Microsoft Certified Master, and a senior consultant for Coeo, a UK SQL Server consultancy. His role is to scope, design, implement, and optimise mission critical SQL Server environments. He is also an author of Professional SQL Server 2012 Internals and Troubleshooting, and a SQL Server community event organiser and speaker.

SQL Server 2008 Database Internals (Duration 75 minutes)
Abstract: Do you already wanted to know how SQL Server 2008/2012 stores a database file physically on the hard drive? In this session you will learn the internal structure of a SQL Server 2008/2012 database file, and how SQL Server stores tables and indices internally in the file system. Furthermore you will see the DBCC T-SQL command in action, with which you can analyse the internal storage format of your database files. All these information from this session helps you in your next database design to get out the last percent of performance from your new database solution.
Presenter: Shree Prasad Khanal
Shree Khanal is a Database Architect, Speaker and trainer. Shree has worked with SQL Server for more than 9+ years and specialises in Data and Business Intelligence. He founded the Himalayan SQL Server User Group (www.sqlpassnepal.org) based in Kathmandu, Nepal.
